Bicycling.com – Featuring Verve 10 Breast Cancer Edition – September 2011

Women’s Verve 10 Hydration Pack, Breast Cancer Edition

EDITORIAL REVIEW

I’ve become so numb to the ubiquitous pink ribbon that it’s rare when a special-edition breast cancer awareness product catches my eye. So when I spotted this amethyst-hued hydration pack and learned that Osprey donates $4 of the purchase price to the nonprofit Breast Cancer Fund, I was intrigued. With its strong-yet-feminine color and subtle graphics of prayer flags that Fund supporters use to communicate inspirational messages, the pack doesn’t scream cliché.

As for functionality, the lightweight pack features an outer mesh pocket and two zippered pockets, the divided main one big enough to stow several spare tubes, CO2 canisters, cell phone, and enough food for hours on the trail. The reservoir holds 100 ounces of fluid, more than enough for my weekend afternoon trail excursions. The bladder contains no BPA or PVC, so water doesn’t take on a plastic aftertaste, and an antimicrobial coating prevents germy nastiness. Thanks to an anatomically contoured shape, the pack is comfy to wear and doesn’t bounce around or slide.

NationalOutdoors.net – Featuring Raptor 10 – March 2011

March 17th, 2011

The Osprey Raptor 10 is a feature-rich mountain biking hydration backpack. The pack’s capacity is 600 cubic inches. With an empty hydration bladder the pack weights 2 lbs. 4 ounces or just over a kilogram. There are two sizes depending on torso length. I tested the Osprey Raptor 10 while mountain biking on trails along the Wasatch Foothills. I also took it for a few day hikes and cross country skiing.

BikeRumor.com Features Osprey Raptor 18 Hydration Pack – October 18, 2010

November 2nd, 2010

I’ll be the first to admit having a bag problem. Over the course of a season of mountain biking, I’ll cycle through an embarrassing number of bags in search of the perfect combination of fit, capacity, and features. Though I do have a handful of standbys that I rely heavily on, when word of Osprey’s first mountain bike specific range of packs began popping up last fall, I had to have a look. The Raptor range (6, 10, 14 and 18) has a whole bunch of shared features that makes the bags stand out from the large number of ‘me too’ hydration packs on the market. Excited by the Raptors’ potential and positive early reviews, I managed to get my hands on a Raptor 18 for review.

Buzz.snow.com featuring Osprey Raptor 10

October 6th, 2010

Osprey packs consistently impress me with their suspension, comfort, and fit, and the Raptor 10 is no exception. This pack looks sleek-small, even-but it’s got room for the food, gear and clothes an all-day ride demands, intelligently placed pockets and straps that stay put. All this on a semi-rigid frame that moves with your body. Better yet, Osprey’s HydraLock system pressurizes the water reservoir, increasing water flow. Turn the bite valve 90 degrees, bite, and the hose does the rest of the work. That’s a beautiful thing when schlepping up five miles of single track under a blazing sun.

Singletracks.com – Featuring Osprey Momentum Hydration Packs – August 18, 2010

September 4th, 2010

We’ve been singing the praises of the Osprey hydration packs that were introduced this year and for 2011 the company is diving even deeper into the bike scene. The Momentum (yellow pack in photo below) is geared toward commuters, though urban mountain bikers will love the hydration compatibility, LidLock helmet attachment, and U-lock pocket. This pack is so new there isn’t any info on Osprey’s website or in the pamphlets they were handing out.

EasternSlopes.com – Featuring Raptor 14 Hydration Pack – August 19, 2010

August 26th, 2010

A quick switch of clothing and equipment, and the day turned from mountain biking to mountain hiking, with the bonus of a picnic at the summit becoming part of the new plan. We’d picked up some local cheese and paté and put them in our cooler for an evening appetizer; instead, they were pressed into service as a decadent lunch, along with some of our usual traveling bag of food. The Osprey Raptor 14 hydration pack that I’d been trying out is larger than the typical MTB pack, and was able to handle our lunch easily. That’s actually pretty impressive for an MTB pack; our lunches aren’t exactly starvation rations! So, in short order we were headed up the trail. And, I do mean up.
